Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera and Namal Rajapaksa MP will also participate as honorary guests.

"Over 10,000 scouts are to take part in this year's jamboree without ethnic, gender and religious differences. This will also be a rehearsal for the Asia Pacific Regional Scouts Jamboree which is to be hosted by Sri Lanka in 2012.

About 27 countries will participate in this regional event. We got the opportunity to hold this event due to the peaceful atmosphere in the country. SLSA commemorates its Golden Jubilee Anniversary in 2012," Kumaratunga said.

SLSA Chief Commissioner and Jamboree and Camboree Leader C Batuwangala said that about 49,000 have acquired the membership of the association upto now.

The association's aim is to increase this number to 100,000 by 2013 to meet the policy regulations of Asia Pacific Regional Scouts Association.

He said that holding the Camboree of Cub Scouts aged between seven to 11 with the Jamboree is a specialty of this year. About five sub camps that contain 60 activity stalls will be included in this event and about 650 scouts from the North are to attend. About Rs 3 million is estimated to be spent for this event.

Jamboree Commissioner Shiras Sali said that the closing ceremony of the Jamboree will take place on December 30 with a well organized arena display.
