Disciplined generation, Scouts aim

The Sri Lanka Scouts Association (SLSA) contributes to make a
disciplined and innovative future generation with leadership and
teamwork skills which is the need of the hour of the country, said World
Parliamentary Scouts Association Sri Lanka Branch President and Postal
Services Minister Jeevan Kumaratunga.

Addressing a media conference at the Information Department
yesterday, he said that scouts are a strength to the country to achieve
its anticipated goals and they played a big role during past crisis
situations.
The Eighth National Scout Jamboree organized by the Sri Lanka Scouts
Association will commence on December 27 at Eraminiyaya in Hambantota
with the participation of President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Chief
Guest. Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, Disaster Management Minister Mahinda
Amaraweera and Namal Rajapaksa MP will also participate as honorary
guests.
"Over 10,000 scouts are to take part in this year's jamboree without
ethnic, gender and religious differences. This will also be a rehearsal
for the Asia Pacific Regional Scouts Jamboree which is to be hosted by
Sri Lanka in 2012.
About 27 countries will participate in this regional event. We got
the opportunity to hold this event due to the peaceful atmosphere in the
country. SLSA commemorates its Golden Jubilee Anniversary in 2012,"
Kumaratunga said.

Batuwangala said that about 49,000 have acquired the membership of the
association upto now.
The association's aim is to increase this number to 100,000 by 2013
to meet the policy regulations of Asia Pacific Regional Scouts
Association.
He said that holding the Camboree of Cub Scouts aged between seven to
11 with the Jamboree is a specialty of this year. About five sub camps
that contain 60 activity stalls will be included in this event and about
650 scouts from the North are to attend. About Rs 3 million is estimated
to be spent for this event.
Jamboree Commissioner Shiras Sali said that the closing ceremony of
the Jamboree will take place on December 30 with a well organized arena
display. |
