Probationary officers to be recruited

The Probation and Childcare Authority in the NCP had made arrangements to recruit a batch of 413 volunteer Probation Officers to help in child protection activities in the Province, said Provincial Health, Indigenous Medicine, Probation and Social Services Minister, Peshala Jayaratne.

Eminent persons who had retired from Government and private sector, service including volunteer organizations would be recruited for these posts. Disclosing this at a conference at his Ministry on Thursday, Minister Jayaratne said directives issues by the President to ensure additional child care and prevent the marriage of underaged children which had become a present day malady, had spurred his Ministry to initiate this move.

He noted that there are several underaged mothers languishing in children's homes in the NCP and the children had to be saved from such danger.
