National Security Day in Jaffna

The National Security Day will be held at Jaffna Weera Sangam Hall
tomorrow from 9.00 am under the theme "Importance of the National
Security Day and National Glory Built aftermath of the Tsunami".
Prime Minister D M Jayaratne is due to participate at the ceremony as
Chief Guest.
During the 2004 Tsunami, 952 persons were killed while Nine
disappeared and, 247 injured in the Jaffna area. The total number of
houses that were destroyed was 9140. 49,438 persons were displaced in
Maradankerni Divisional Secretariat and Point Pedro.
These displaced persons have now been resettled with the mediation of
the Sri Lanka Forces.
Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, Deputy Minister
Dulip Wejesekera, Jaffna District Secretary, Imelda Sukumar, Jaffna
Defence Forces Commander Maj. Gen. Mahinda Haturusinghe and Ministry
officials are due to participate. |
