Let us experience true X’mas spirit
Let us experience the spirit of a true Christmas that share the love
of God rather than a Christmas with glitter and glamour, Prime Minister

The message: “It is my utmost belief that this Christmas, which dawns
in the lap of year 2010 following the nativity of Jesus, would be very
special to all Christians in Sri Lanka. I consider, the elevation of His
Eminence Malcom Ranjith to the rank of Cardinal to represent the South
Asia region and thus bringing a lot of acclaim and honour to Christian
devotees of Sri Lanka and to mother Sri Lanka, is a very special gift we
have received this Christmas.
“How many Christmases have we missed to celebrate whole-heartedly due
to fear and anxiety haunted on our minds of a possible death warrant
that could be issued any time by Prabhakaran, even when we were praying
to the Lord in the Church?
“For how many Christmas had the Christians in this country
experienced the horror of death and thus deprived of their visit to
Church for midnight Mass.
“By now, a favourable environment has been established to provide the
opportunity to celebrate the much-loved Christmas that once seized off
our hands by the unreasonable 30-year long war, more meaningfully and
without indifferences to cast, creed or race. Unless heroes of the three
forces led by the President, united this country shedding their sweat,
tears and blood, we would still have lived like half dead people.
“Therefore, pray for a while during the Christmas mass for their
sake!
Making the holy words of the Lord “the spirit of God lives in the
heart of the poor” a reality, time has come for us to learn the lesson
taught by Christianity by choosing a humble stable for the arrival of
Jesus Christ to this World.
Let us experience the spirit of a true Christmas that share the love
of God rather than Christmas with glitter and glamour.” |
