Over 20 acre ganja cultivation found

The Thanamalwila police discovered a 22 acre cannabis (Ganja) plantation during a six week raid in the Thanamalwila forest reserve, according to Thanamalwila OIC P A A Hemachandra.

During the raid, police found the cannabis chenas in Udawalawe, Lunugamvehera, Balaharuwa, Kiula and Mahawewa government reserve forests.

The police also arrested 40 suspects guarding the chenas.

Police have destroyed the cannabis worth over 500 million rupees.

Uva Senior DIG Pujith Jayasundera directed the operation.
