No room for terrorism
Terrorism which brought much devastation to the
country over three decades will never be allowed to resurface again,
Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said. The Defence Secretary
addressing the passing out ceremony of the Special Force at
Maduruoya Saturday, said terrorism will never be allowed to destroy
the peaceful situation in the country since measures have been taken
to safeguard the country.

Action against bribe taking PC members
Three Provincial Council members who took bribes
with the promise of providing sanitary labourer jobs in hospitals
are to be taken to task, according to Health Minister Maithripala
Sirisena. Minister Sirisena while handing over appointment letters
to 850 new hospital sanitary labourers at the John de Silva theatre
yesterday, said that he had information regarding three bribe taking
PC members, a Ministry spokesman said.

Foreign warships taking part in sail past:
Testimony to Navy’s role
Foreign Navy Commanders and representatives of
21 navies arrived in Sri Lanka to participate in the Sri Lanka
Navy’s 60th anniversary celebrations. War ships from China, India,
Bangladesh, Pakistan, Iran, Thailand and Russia arrived in the
island to take part in this historic event. Sending of their ships
for this event by the two veto holding nations, Russia and China,
was a significant feature. It manifests the strong foreign relations
Sri Lanka has with other countries and also bears testimony to the
important role played by the Sri Lanka Navy towards the
strengthening of Sri Lanka’s foreign relations.

Warakapola incident:
Six gang members shot dead
Six of the seven member armed robber gang that
shot dead two police officers who proceeded to arrest them while the
gang was fleeing in a van after robbing a pawn shop in Warakapola on
Friday evening died in a shootout. The shooting took place between
them and the police in the Koskele area in Mirigama.
