World IT spending to top US $ 1.6 trillion:

Sri Lanka to benefit

The major proportion of the world’s IT spending for 2011 will be acquired by emerging countries around the world. Sri Lanka, being an attractive destination for service investments in the world will play an enabling role in its journey towards the knowledge economy while gaining a considerable share of IT spending in the world.

‘Corporate education plays integral role’

Organizations with a strategic approach to corporate education that invest in the learning and skills development of their employees find their investment increases over time. Delivering the key note speech at the fifth International Research Conference on Management and Finance 2010, Malaysia’s Mangement and Science University Dean Prof Dr. Ali Khatibi said that corporate education can also play an integral role in succession planning, leadership development and building organizational capability and capacity. It will also facilitate innovation programs to generate new products and services and identify new markets and customers.

South Asian migrant workers play key role

South Asia is a major labour exporting region. There are five million transient South Asian workers in the Middle East, who play a key role in transmitting remittances to the region. Migration and the resulting remittances play a fairly large role in the economies of South Asia. Remittances make a large contribution to the level of GDP in these countries and stimulate many macro and micro-economic benefits, Institute of Policy Studies Sri Lanka Executive Director Dr Saman Kelegama said.

Jewels Sri Lanka 2010: “Jewels Sri Lanka 2010” International Gem, Mineral and Jewellery Trade Show concluded successfully at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exhibition Centre yesterday.
