Govt cares for disabled people - Minister

When recruiting Government servants a percentage will be allocated for disabled people. Similarly some percentage will be allocated from every third party insurance for disabled individuals Social Services Minister Felix Perera said.

Instead of pitying disabled individuals the time has come to harness their abilities to the main economic stream.

Some wealthy people hide their disabled family members from society. They consider that these poor people are a embarrassment to their family back grounds. Even though they are physically disabled their minds are healthy. People like them are not socially valued in society. "We should change this situation," he said.

These people expect love, loving kindness and compassion from people. If they are being kept prisoners the values of our society as a Buddhist society will be degraded. It is common for people to show pity for such individuals. Accordingly our culture it could happen.

Nevertheless society should treat them as the same level as others. According to the vision of the Government the country can used their abilities for development.

These people have the ability to keep their minds alert better than others. Therefore they have abilities to build themselves as skilful citizens even as artistes, writers and singers. It is possible that most people have some hidden disabling condition, he said.
