Katukurunda needs attention
C M Kamburawala
From morn to dusk, Katukurunda junction, on Galle Road is always
congested with heavy traffic and one police-cop has deployed to control
them only on peak hours. But this place is the most busy within the
Kalutara UC limits and the road division here lead to Katukurunda Police
STF Training Camp, the Teachers Training School, Air Force Camp,
Kalutara-Nagoda General Hospital, National Institution of Hygiene and so
many other important public institutions. Besides, pedestrians and
school children are crossing this place.
It has been reported so many road accidents too in the recent past.
Hence, the necessity has arisen to be installed colour-lights traffic
signals apparatus on this place.
The Highways Ministry and RDA should have to draw their kind
attention and prompt action, regarding this matter.
Smiling at grief
Waduge Elmo Douglas Fernando
Just fancy the American State Department’s sorrow at the Sri Lanka’s
Government’s constitutional amendment to extend the period of office of
the President of Sri Lanka. This smacks of the capitalist overtures of
the State Department, which the linguist Neom Chomksky alwayus debunks
whenever the State Department reiterates its foreign policy. Besides,
this is no wonder to note how depressed the State Department would have
been when the Sri Lankan President, Hon Mahinda Rajapaksa wiped out the
LTTE menace, lock stock and barrel. |
