Jaffna in the past
Before the ethnic disturbances come to pass in Jaffna peninsula there
was a branch office of the Department of Immigration and Emigration
which issued passports on smooth manner without any fuss.
Any way it was closed many years ago, due to unavoidable
circumstances, and since then, the northern citizens had to access
Colombo to be obtained a travel document. In fact this is very tiresome
and heavy expensive journey to a person who possess low-income.
Hence the war torn areas have had come back to normal life now, if
the controller general of the Department of Immigration and Emigration
kindly consider to re-establish the branch office in Jaffna, it would be
a great service done to the Northern public.
At present there are branches in Kandy, Matara and Anuradhapura too.
In addition to these, according to my view there is no impossible to
re-inaugurate the Jaffna, passport branch office.
Hence with the collaboration of the Defence Ministry, the controller
general of Immigration and Emigration, may you draw your kind attention
to fulfill this worthy task.
