Josephians of different ages came forward to launch the “Rugby
Hornets” are bonded by a love for rugby and a love for their Alma-Mater.
According to the founder chairman of the “ Hornets” Lalith De Mel;
the history of Hornets dates back to 1953 where St Joseph’s first
started playing unofficial rugby. However the game was officially
introduced to the Darley Road school in 1955. It is Important to stay
and sustain in the big league.
The encouraging factor is that some of enthusiastic old boys have
decided to make it a “Forwards Rush” observed Rev. Fr. Sylvester
Ranasinghe; the sports loving Principal of St Joseph’s.
Yesteryear star sportsmen Brian Obeysekera, Rohan De Alwis, Anton
Benedict,Dr. Gamini Goonetilleke, Parick Ranasinghe, Manik Pereira
