Nalanda and HFC squash champions

The Invitation Schools Squash Tournament of Nalanda College concluded
with the finals on Wednesday after a continuous battle between the main
squash playing schools. Nalanda College emerged champions in the boys
events while Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya showed their excellent
skills in the girls section.
WA Shehan Dhanushka of Nalanda beat his opponent Deveen L Piyasena (Nalanda)
by 11-2, 11-4, 11-4, to become the champion in the under 13 boys event.
Avishke Sumanadeera of Royal won the championship and Lakmal Oshada
Gamage of Nalanda became the runner-up in the under 15 boys finals. The
match went to 11-8,12-4,11-8, 11-7.
In boys under 17 Dharma Wickramasinghe of Nalanda won the
championship by beating his schoolmate Suharsha Liyanage 11-3, 11-6.
Dinuki Ariyadasa of Holy Family Convent beat her schoolmate Baghya
Wickramasinghe by 11-4, 13-11, 12-10, to win the championship in the
under 19 girls event.
Nalanda squash captain Dharma Wickramsinghe won the Best Player award
while Nalanda College became overall Champions Royal became the
runner-up while Holy Family got the third place.
The chief guest former Commissioner of Examinations, Gunapala
Wickramaratne and the guest of honour, the President of Sri Lanka
Schools Squash Federation Asoka Senani Hewage.
The chief organizer of the event Rear Admiral Sarath Ratnakeerthi (rtd)
were present at the awards ceremony. |
