Coconut causes rumpus in the House

Coconut Development and State Plantation Minister Jagath Pushpakumara yesterday queried as to what would happen if UNP MP Palitha Range Bandara brought a bomb into Parliament the same way he brought two halves of coconut into the House.

Deputy Chairman of Committees Murugesu Chandrakumar stated that he would inquire into the incident of how two halves of coconut were brought inside the House.

Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena said that the August assembly was not meant for jokes and called for an inquiry to determine how coconuts were brought into the Chamber.

UNP MP Palitha Range Bandara yesterday held two halves of coconut in Parliament to make a point that coconut prises were very high.

Government Members including Minister Pushpakumara protested against it.

Bandara stated that he did not bring the coconuts into the House. He added that they were kept on his table.

The Deputy Chairman of Committees ordered the coconut be taken out of the House.
