Devi Balika launches school newspaper

Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo launched a school newspaper yesterday. Named Devi Diadem, it aims to encourage students' creativity and to improve their writing skills.

A new era has dawned for Devi Balika Vidyalaya with the publication of this newspaper, according to school authorities.

It is a product of the school's Writers' Club. It will be published once a term, said Devi Diadem teacher-in-charge Nirmala Kaluarachchi.

"Devi Balika Vidyalaya has grown from humble beginnings to a leading girls' school in Sri Lanka. It is a great achievement," said its past Principal Kalyani de Soysa addressing the launching ceremony.

She said this is a necessity in every school. She also paid her gratitude to the staff for encouraging the students.
