Maximum retail price for rice

The Government yesterday imposed a maximum retail price for Samba, Nadu, white and red raw rice from midnight yesterday.

Trade, Consumer Affairs and Cooperatives Minister Johnston Fernando said the maximum price of a kilo of rice Samba excluding Suduru and Keeri Samba will be Rs 70 while a Kilo of Nadu, White and Red raw rice would be Rs 60.

Fernando added that the control price imposed on rice was removed on a directive of the Committee on controlling Cost of Living and Food Security and its was not his unanimous decision.
