The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) on a tip-off yesterday
raided a house in Wellampitiya, where a six-year-old child, who is
believed to have gone missing following the tsunami was adopted by a
couple.
According to NCPA officials they had received information that a
staffer of a hospital down south had sold this child to this couple.
They believe that the male child would have been two or three weeks old,
when he was sold to the couple. The child is now under NCPA care.
NCPA Chairman Anoma Dissanayake yesterday told the Daily News that
the couple was arrested by NCPA officials and they were produced before
the Hulftsdorp Magistrate.
She sought the assistance of those parents whose children went
missing in the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami to identify the child. |
