Calyton wins Swedish Classic

Nick Calyton won the seventh version of the Swedish Classic Trophy while the Gold Division for men and ladies ere won by Sujeewa Lankatillake and Niloo Jayatillake respectively at the Annual Swedish Classic Trophy Golf Championship organised by the Swedish Community in Sri Lanka and the Victoria Golf and Country Resort and worked off at the beautiful Victoria Golf Course at Rajawella off Kandy.

Over 120 golfers including 60 foreigners competed in the golf championship which is extremely popular and the participation of a large number of golfers from countries like Sweden, India, Malaysia, Japan, Dubai, Denmark and many other countries is an indication of its popularity.

Five times worlds motocross champion from Sweden Rulf Tibblin acted as the Master of Ceremonies and in his speech said that this is about the best golf course in the world he had played and the conditions were excellent and the organizing was fantastic and paid a glowing tribute to General Manager Errol Johnston and his staff. These words came from a legendary who thrilled the motor racing world with his dare devil riding and is much respected in that sport. He is a motor racing idol.

Rolf Tibblin said that this golf competition will be renamed “The Scandinavian Golf Classics” from next year and a very large participation is expected. He thanked the organising committee comprising Ian Tait.

Joachim Fugmax, Chathuri Rayman, Indika Tibblins, Sujeewa Lankatillake and many others for the excellent arrangements at the Awards Ceremony which was graced by the High Commissioner for Sweden in India and Sri Lanka based in New Delhi Lans Olof Lindgrom himself a fine golfer distributed the main awards.

Nick Calyton won the plum the Swedish classic trophy ahead of 119 golfers with the best Nett score. The Rolfs Cup offered for the seniors over 65 years with the Best Nett score was won by Swade Par Crombbin, a regular high performer at Victoria. The runner up in the championship was another foreigner Uwe Burke.
