Sports stars of Military Police receive awards

The inaugural sports colours nite of the Military Police of the Sri
Lanka Army was held at BMICH on Wednesday evening under the patronage of
the Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya. Achievement
awards were given away to 158 SLCMP personnel who had been ranked at
Army, Defence Services Level, National and International Levels.

Commenced in October 1,1951 the SLCMP has a proud history of more
than six decades.
Apart from responsible for the policing of services personnel and
contributing in operations and exercises they have shown tremendous
achievements in the field of sport.
There are many SLCMP personnel who have shown excellent skills in
Army level, Defence Services, National Level Performances and
Presentation of Sri Lanka in International arena and brought honour and
fame with their special sporting skills, received awards at the
occasion.
The event had been organized by Provost Marshal of the Sri Lanka Army
and Colonel Commandant of the Military Police Major General Jagath
Wijesiri.
Army Headquarters Chief of Staff Major General RMD Rathnayake gave
away the certificates to those who performed well in Army Level while
Volunteer Forces Commander Major General Aruna Jayathilake gave the
certificates in the Defence Level Performances.
Awards for National Level Performers were given by Army Headquarters
Deputy Chief of Staff Major General Lalith Wijetunge. The Army Commander
Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya gave away the certificates for the
achievers in International Level. SLCMP Centre Commandant Colonel GKS
Fonseka and many higher ranking Army officials were also present.

Tournaments.

Rugby/Cricket/Soccer/Basket ball- SPCS Jayathilake, LJ Perera for
Boxing- TGPK Edirisinge for Karate- HGS Hewawitharane, MPA Pradeep,
HMKGD Herath, WA Saman Kumara, UAM Ranjeewa for Taekwondo – DPP
Rangajeewa, PHWDLA Bandara, AWA Withanage for Kabadi – GSK Chularatne
for Athletics and Cricket - TKUK Fernando for Weightlifting received
colours and certificates. |
