J'pura undergrads told to appear in Court

Nugegoda Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge Rohana Anura
Kumara Herath yesterday ordered four students of the Sri Jayewardenepura
University who are on suspension orders be noticed to appear in Court
for illegally entering the University premises and joining a
demonstration staged by a group of nearly 500 students.
The four student suspects are H S M Samarasinghe, K G C Deshapriya, P
A N Dhanushka and K K N S Karunatilleke.
Mirihana Police told Court that these four students were among
several other suspended students who entered the University premises to
join nearly 500 of their colleagues to stage a demonstration on November
26 forenoon. Police were conducting investigations to identify the other
students on suspension who had joined the demonstration after entering
the University premises in an unauthorized manner.
Police said University Chief Security Officer Bandara Yatigammana had
complained that a group of students on suspension had forcibly entered
the University and joined a picketing campaign and a protest march upto
Wijerama Junction.
Police said a student suspect named Dhanushka is alleged to be behind
several unruly acts committed within the University premises. |
