NFF to protest opposite British Embassy:

UK has failed in their duty - Wimal

Minister Weerawansa

United Kingdom is a failed state. UK has been unable to fulfill diplomatic procedures and establish a peaceful environment within the country for a visiting Head of a State, said National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader and Minister Wimal Weerawansa addressing a media briefing held at Battaramulla yesterday. The Oxford Union has cancelled President Mahinda Rajapaksa's address and allowed LTTE supporters to protest. UK has banned LTTE and their activities but LTTE supporters protested using LTTE flags, he said.

"UK has proved that they are unable to create a peaceful atmosphere for a visiting foreign leader. They have failed in their duty. They have clearly showed it. This is our party's view," he said.

"A lot of foreign delegates including those who criticized Sri Lanka have come to Sri Lanka. But Sri Lanka didn't protest in front of airports. Sri Lanka didn't harass them. We let them to conduct their planned agendas. We even took some delegations into the war areas," Weerawansa said.

He said that UK tried to establish a LTTE government but President Mahinda Rajapaksa prevented it.

"They try to take revenge from us. Western countries during the last few years tried to show Sri Lanka as a failed State. We changed that attitude," Weerawansa said.

"The LTTE, DNA and the UNP also helped to carry out these protests," Weerawansa said. "The NFF has planned to hold a peaceful protest opposite the UK Embassy in Colombo on December 3 at 11 am," he said.
