Prisoner database

All convicted prisoners' details will be computerised by the Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms Ministry. The computerizing process will commence within a few weeks. This will be on an advice of Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms Minister Chandrasiri Gajadeera, Ministry Secretary A Disanayake said.

Accordingly, for the first time in the Prison Department's history, the details of around 27,000 convicted prisoners will be entered to a database.

However, the details of remand prisoners will not be entered to the database at the initial stage.

Under this program, every single data of each inmate until jailing out will be available in the database for quick reference. These details have been kept in files according to the present practice.
