Training for dairy farmers:
Agriculture boost in Jaffna

The Jaffna Security Forces arranged a training course for dairy
farmers in Jaffna District to uplift agriculture in the district
affected during the past three decades.
The Civil Affairs and Public Relations Office of the Security Forces,
Jaffna commencing the first phase made arrangements for 12 dairy farmers
to follow the one month residential course at Seeppukulama Government
Farm in Anuradhapura.
Four from the 51 Division in Jaffna, five from the 52 Division in
Varani and three from the Task Force-7 in Iyakachchi were dispatched to
Seeppukulama in a bus provided by the Security Forces, Jaffna on
November 15. Another four soldiers attached to the Army farm at Palaly
also joined the Jaffna farmers to follow the course conducted by dairy
farming instructors.
A certificate will be issued to those who successfully complete the
course.
Another backyard poultry project was also launched with the
distribution of fowls and hens among farmers in the Jaffna district on
the initiative of Security Forces-Jaffna Commander Major General Mahinda
Hathurusinghe.
Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe said the economy of Jaffna mainly
depends on agriculture and fisheries.
The economy fell during the past three decades due to the terrorist
activities and now the economy and agricultural activities are gradually
improving, he said. |
