World Sports in brief
Aussie Scott hangs on to win
Australia’s Adam Scott won his second title of the year at the
six-million-dollar Barclays Singapore Open Monday, carding a final round
three-under 68 for a three-shot victory. Anders Hansen of Denmark
finished second, a shot behind Scott while US Open champion Graeme
McDowell tied for third with Swede Rikard Karlberg at 13-under 271.
One tournament left for Woods
Tiger Woods has just next month’s Chevron World Challenge left to end
his tormented year of win-less tournaments, after finishing fourth in
the Australian Masters in Melbourne. The former world number one, the
winner of 14 majors among 95 tournament victories, is still without a
victory going into his last event of the year, but there were
encouraging signs at the Australian Masters on Sunday.
Kim captures LPGA title once again
South Korea’s In-Kyung Kim won her third career LPGA title on Sunday,
firing an eight-under par 64 to capture the 1.1 million-dollar Lorena
Ochoa Invitational by three strokes.
Kim fired nine birdies against a lone bogey for her first triumph
since last year’s State Farm Classic to finish 72 holes on 19-under par
269.
Soderling gives Monfils deja vu to win
Sweden’s Robin Soderling secured his first ever Masters title with a
6-1, 7-6 (7/1) defeat of home favourite Gael Monfils in the ATP Paris
Masters final on Sunday.
Soderling, a two-time French Open finalist, claimed his sixth career
title to inflict a second consecutive Bercy final defeat upon 12th seed. |
