Adopting the six-colour Buddhist flag, the symbol
of faith and harmony as the official flag of the international
Buddhist Community was the most significant move at the first
session of the World Fellowship of Buddhists (WFB) held in 1950, 60
years ago in Colombo and Kandy.

Cohesive leadership and positive thinking
Nation building requires cohesive nationalist
policies and collective self-confidence of the people and this has
to be specially so when a nation is endeavouring to stand on its own
feet after having been subjected to 433 long years of colonial rule.
However the road Sri Lanka has treaded during the past 62 years had
been marked by the absence of those very pre-requisites for we have
been torn asunder by cultural, communal, religious differences with
political divisions as icing on that disintegrating cake.
