Civil documents digitized
The Government has digitized several Million civil documents. These
documents covered Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates. The Government
has spent Rs. 167 Million for digitizing these documents.
The program named as eBMD Project was carried out under three phases
and under phase I, the project was implemented at Divisional Development
Secretariat levels in the Districts of Matara, Gampaha, Kandy, Vavuniya,
Kurunegala, Anuradhapura, Nuwar Eliya and Puttalam Districts.
The cost of this phase amounted to Rs. 31 million. The Divisional
Secretariat covered under this phases included Akuressa, Gampaha,
Attanagalle, Meerigama, Vavuniya, Kurunegala, Kalpitiya, Anuradhapura,
Nuwara Eliya and Gangawata Korale.
Under phase II of the program implemented at a cost of Rs. 128
million documents related to Tsunami affected areas in the districts of
Matara, Galle, Hambantota, Gampaha, Kalutara, Ampara. Trincomalee,
Jaffna and Batticaloa were digitized. The third phase covered digitizing
of documents in the districts of Killinochchi, Mullative, Mannar and
Vavuniya at a cost of Rs. 7 million.
The Asian Development Bank and the United Nations Development Program
funded part of the expenses related to this work. (niz)
