GOJ projects to assist children

The Government of Japan (GOJ) is ever ready to strengthen Sri Lankan
government’s attempt to enhance rural education. The GOJ has launched
several projects island-wide to assist Sri Lankan children. Children are
the treasures of a country. These projects will help to uplift their
status said Japanese Ambassador Kunio Takahasi addressing a media
briefing after signing two contracts at the Embassy of Japan yesterday.
The Government of Japan has provided Rs 37 million financial
assistance for two Early Childhood Care and Development Projects in
Nuwara Eliaya and Trincomalee Districts to be implemented by Save the
Children Japan and Plantation Rural Education and Development
Organizat-ion(PREDO).
The objectives of the project are to enhance childhood education and
to enhance the lives of grassroots communities in rural areas. The
project “Improving Environment of Child Education in Nuwara Eliya
District” consists of constructing three pre-schools providing study
materials and training for 130 teachers.
The other project, Early Childhood Care and Development Project” in
Trincomalee district provides livelihood support for 100 families and
constructing of pre-schools.
