Four new finance companies

RFCs must get listed before June 2011:

Four local companies have applied for licences to establish finance companies (RFC) from the Central Bank during this year. The Central Bank is in the process of evaluating these applications a senior Central Bank official told Daily News Business.

NE bank branches disburse Rs 656 m in loans

CB praises high level of recovery:

Twelve bank branches mainly in the North and East have provided 11,360 loans under four categories amounting to Rs 656 million with a high level of recovery during last year. Bank of Ceylon Achchuveli, People’s Bank Welikanda and Rajarata Development Bank were commended for the excellent service of the bank officers in the field for delivery of development credit during 2009 under the New Comprehensive Rural Credit Scheme (NCRCS) held at the Central Bank Training Institute in Rajagiriya yesterday.

Hambantota Port project proposals close September 30

Accepting project proposals for the establishing of new businesses in the Hambantota industrial port ends September 30. The Government requested project proposals from potential investors to establish ventures in the Hambantota industrial port recently. Hambantota Port Project Director Agil Hewageegana said 27 foreign and local investors have already taken the required documentation to submit their business proposals.

People’s Leasing Company Ltd (PLC) entered into an agreement in India with Ashok Leyland Ltd to import passenger transport buses to the value of US $ 26 million. The contract is valid for one year and expects to bring in over 1,000 vehicles, releasing them on lease terms to customers at a special price, specifically aimed at SMEs outside Colombo metropolitan area. There is a high demand for the passenger transport business after the opening of North-East areas. There are 300 private bus operators in the waiting list to purchase buses from the company.
