It is our bounden duty and responsibility to uplift Sri Palee Maha
Vidyalaya, Horana which has been a prestigious educational institution
from ancient times, said Sri Palee Principal J D L V K Jasinghe at the
schools family day celebrations held at the school premises recently.
The ceremony coincided with the holding of Sri Palee’s traditional
‘Upasana Perahera’ organized by its Past Pupils’ Association and the
placing of floral tributes at the foot of the Wilmot A Perera statue to
commemorate the school’s founder.
Principal Jasinghe said a special word of thanks was due to the
members of the school Past Pupils’ Association who rendered an
indefatigable service towards the welfare of the school and its student
and teacher community.
Jasinghe said the traditional ‘Upasana Perahera’ was started in 2008
as a monthly feature to help foster moral and spiritual values among the
student community. They have now decided to conduct this as a weekly
feature as it was a great incentive towards creating discipline.
Former Principal K U S Perera said he had a novel experience when he
headed the school as Principal from 1972 to 75.
Sri Palee had great principals and traditions as a school funded by
late Wilmot A Perera. Highlights also included several musical and
cultural items held at the school premises. Musician Weerasena
Gunatilleke and teledrama actor Janak Premalal were among those present.
