POH scholarships awarded

The POH scholarship awards ceremony was held at the University Grants Commission Auditorium last week. Higher Education Minister S B Dissanayake was the chief guest. The Deans of the relevant faculties and Principals of the relevant schools, POH scholars and their parents were present at the occasion.

The POH Scholarship scheme commenced in 2009 and is sponsored by Singaporean Donors Mr and Mrs Poh Beng Swee.

This year the Singaporean donors selected another five students for the scheme and one more for a period of one year.

Mythily Sivapathasundaram and Pasindu Perera of Medical Faculty, Nipuna Samarasekara and Anton Jonniraj from Engineering Faculty and Achalie Kumarage from Law Faculty were awarded with POH scholarships. Thamayanthi Sripalan was awarded with a one year grant. A special feature this year was that two students from the North qualified for the scheme.
