Best Corporate Citizen Awards:
Applications close on Friday
The applications are flowing in for the Best Corporate Citizen Awards
2010, being held for the seventh consecutive year, and the Ceylon
Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for the tough selection process ahead.
The awards ceremony will be held on November 3 at the Cinnamon Grand.
Prof Mohan Munasinghe will be the keynote speaker for this year’s
awards. Prof Munasinghe was the co-laureate of the 2007 Nobel Prize for
Peace, as Vice Chair of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
(IPCC-AR4). Currently, he is the Munasinghe Institute of Development
(MIND), Colombo Chairman Sustainable Development Professor at the
Manchester University, UK and Honorary Senior Advisor to the Sri Lanka
Government.
The main objectives of the awards will be to raise awareness on the
importance of CSR and Strategic Corporate Sustainability to the business
community and to promote and encourage these practices among the
corporate sector.
In view of recent developments, both locally and globally, this
year’s awards will give more attention to sustainability of business
while encouraging corporates to be conscious of their social
responsibilities.
This will require corporate entities to look at three-dimensions in
particular; people, profit and planet - in effect, be conscious of the
needs of future generations when meeting existing needs.
All private and public companies and Government owned business
enterprises are eligible to apply for the Best Corporate Citizen Awards.
Further details could be obtained from the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce,
Economic Intelligence Unit or www.chamber.lk.
