Accepting project proposals for the establishing of new businesses in
the Hambantota industrial port ends September 30. The Government
requested project proposals from potential investors to establish
ventures in the Hambantota industrial port recently. Hambantota Port
Project Director Agil Hewageegana said 27 foreign and local investors
have already taken the required documentation to submit their business
proposals.
Most of them have expressed their willingness to start their ventures
before November this year. “We have not still finalized the investors’
profile and after receiving the documentation we will be able to say how
many investors are aspiring to start ventures and what type of
industries they will set up,” Hewageegana said.
Investment opportunities are available in food canning, fertilizer
processing, cement grinding, raw materials, assembling, warehousing and
such other ventures.
Sri Lankan investors have also shown interest to start joint ventures
with foreign collaboration and 140 acres have been reserved to start
these ventures.
