Zulqarnain in doubt
Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Zulqarnain Haider is doubtful for the
final two Tests of the series against England after suffering a finger
injury, a statement said on Saturday. “Zulqarnain suffered an injury to
his little finger in the right hand while batting in the second Test and
preliminary tests have revealed its a hairline fracture,” a PCB
statement said.
Clijsters into final
Reigning US Open champion Kim Clijsters advanced to the WTA
Cincinnati Open final after Serbia’s Ana Ivanovic injured her left foot
only 12 minutes into their match and retired in tears. Belgian fourth
seed Clijsters led 2-1 after breaking Ivanovic in the third game, but
the showdown of former world number ones.
Federer wins another
Roger Federer will return to world number two after reaching the ATP
Toronto Masters final by dodging a bullet for the second night in a row,
beating Novak Djokovic 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 on Saturday. The dramatic victory
sets up a final against fourth-seeded Scot Andy Murray, who put out
Spanish world number one Rafael Nadal 6-3, 6-4.
Perfect start for Holloway
Blackpool manager Ian Holloway was so stunned by his team’s storming
start to life in the Premier League that he wants photographic proof
that he is isn’t dreaming.
Blackpool, playing in the top flight for the first time in 39 years,
