Nearly 200,000 for first Randoli Perahera

Nearly two hundred thousand people arrived in Kandy yesterday for the
first Randoli Perahera of the Esala festival. All streets on which the
Perahera was to journey were filled with crowds by 4 p.m. yesterday.
The route of the first Kumbal Perahera of the Esala Perahera was
extended for the first time in many years.
Heavy rains with beginning of Perahera

Several areas in the upcountry are experiencing heavy showers with
the beginning of the Kandy Esala Perahera.
The third day of the kumbal perahera is today. The perahera will
parade D S Senanayake Veediya and Raja Veediya.

One person was killed and two others injured when the three wheeler
in which they were travelling has knock down by a train at Beruwala.
Beruwala police are investigating.

The Killinochchi water tank will be
relocated on a request made by Namal Rajapaksa MP. Rajapaksa has
requested Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh Gunawardena
to relocate the Killinochchi water tank at a suitable place.
This tank located in the heart of Killinochchi city had been
damaged by the LTTE. The Water Supply and Drainage Board later
decided to demolish the tank and obtain its iron. Here the MP

Former Minister and Sri Lanka Islamic
Centre Chairman M H Mohamed was honoured with a prestigious
award at the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the World Muslim
League – Rabitaa Al – al – Al Islam in Mecca, Saudi Arabia for
his service to Islam and Muslims. Saudi Arabian Deputy Prime
Minister Naif Abdul Azeez Al Zaid handed over the award to M H
Mohamed in Mecca. Mohamed is the founder member of this
prestigious World Islamic body. |
