Calderon continues anti-crime dialogue
Mexico: Mexican Presidnt Fillipe Calderon called on the
Governors of all states in Mexico Thursday to discuss the problems of
domestic violence and insecurity that have created a crisis situation in
the country.
Invited to the meeting were the chief executives of the 31 states and
the Federal District, as part of “The Dialogue for Security. Towards a
State policy”.
According to Calderon, the initiative does not pretend to replace the
institutional spaces for discussion, but to join forces against
organized crime and create a strategy that involves the State as a
whole.
So far there have been meetings with leaders of political parties,
academics, journalists, experts on security and drug trafficking, social
leaders, religious leaders and lawyers. According to statements by
participants in these meetings, there is a consensus on the need to put
a stop to organized and common crime, which are rising to unprecedented
levels.
There are also critics that question the interests of the executive
and the practical results of this debate, states the national press.
