LaAm condemns bomb attack in Colombia
Brazil: The Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) and other
Latin American countries have decried the bomb attack in Colombia
against the building that lodges, among other institutions, the renowned
radio station Caracol. The Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos,
termed the attack in Bogota’s financial centre, which injured nine
people and caused heavy material damage, a terrorist act.
UNASUR secretary general, former Argentinean president Nestor Kichner,
conveyed on behalf of the organization the “strongest repudiation” to
the violent action which no group has so far claimed responsibility for.
The governments of Argentina, Ecuador, Mexico and Venezuela, for their
part, have been the first to condemn the attack.
“We express our solidarity and sympathy for the Colombian people and
Government, and our rejection to all violent action, particularly
terrorist actions of this nature”, Ecuadorean Foreign and Domestic
Security Minister Miguel Carvajal told the press in Quito.
The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry released a statement denouncing “in
the most energetic manner the attack against the fraternal Colombian
people and against their fervent desire to live in peace”.
The statement underlines Caracas’ desire that the attempt can be
cleared up soon.
Argentina, for its part, deplored that the attack is an intimidation
blow against the initiatives announced by the new Colombian Government
aimed at fostering peace and stability in the country and the region.
The Mexican Foreign Relations Ministry called the morning attack in
Bogota despicable because those behind pretend to sow terror, and
attempt against the freedom of expression.
