Afridi launches campaign for flood victims
Pakistan cricket star Shahid Afridi on Thursday launched a campaign
to help assist millions afflicted by devastating floods in his country’s
worst-ever humanitarian disaster.
The 30-year-old all-rounder visited Nowshehra, one of the hardest-hit
parts of the northwest, to take part in a flood-relief campaign.
Bin Hammam backs goal-line technology
Asian Football Confederation president Mohamed Bin Hammam has thrown
his support behind the use of goal-line technology and extra assistant
referees.
The Qatari, seen as a potential successor to FIFA chief Sepp Blatter,
suggested it was an almost inevitable development.
British PM pays tribute to Beckham
British Prime Minister David Cameron described David Beckham as an
“incredible role model in sport” on Thursday after England coach Fabio
Capello signalled the end of the player’s international career. “I’d
just like to take the opportunity to pay tribute to someone who, I
think, has been an incredible role model in sport,” Cameron said.
Chelsea close in on Brazilian pair
Chelsea are reportedly close to signing Brazilian midfield starlet
Neymar, who could join compatriot and fellow international Ramires at
Stamford Bridge. Midfielder Ramires is expected to be announced as the
club’s latest signing on Thursday or Friday, when he completes a 22
million euros move from Portuguese side Benfica.
