Corruption should be curbed to develop any country, said Malaysian
Economic Planning Department Deputy Director General Dr K Govindan.

Dr Govindan made these comments when he called on Public Management
and Reforms Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake recently. He further said
Public Management Reforms Ministry has responsibility in an era where
Sri Lanka is marching towards development.
He expressed his willingness to share his knowledge and experiences
with Sri Lanka in the tasks ahead. He welcomed the efforts taken by the
Government to obtain support for development from countries such as
Malaysia, a key Asian region leader.
Persons with specialized knowledge should be deployed in key areas
where there is high necessity for proper management. He highlighted the
importance of positive image of all Government institutions in making
them productive. He stressed the importance of ancient systems that
brought prosperity in the past to the country. To face the development
challenges new methodologies should be implemented considering the
ancient methods, he said. He expressed solidarity with the Lankan
Government in the tourism industry. Dr K Govindan said country’s
stability is important to develop tourism industry.
Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake said the Government elected by the
people should fulfill common expectations of the people. Public opinions
in respect of good governance need to make the State service strong and
effective.
He further said the people of a country is the lord that country they
must be kept in the topmost in practising the law and order. They are
the guides of the nulling party and their criticisms should be welcomed
at any time, the Minister said.
Both private and State sectors should work competitively on a common
agenda targeting the country’s development, he said.
Dr K Govindan said there are certain areas that need to be changed.
An attitudinal change among the employees is needed, he said. |
