Anandasangaree praises Forces
TULF Leader V Anandasangaree yesterday said that Sri Lankan military
forces are excellent in terms of humanitarian assistance. He said they
are the best humanitarianwise and the civilians displaced by terrorist
atrocities in the North are well looked after by them.

He stressed the need of setting up civil administration in the areas
affected by the conflict. He was of the view that the assistance of
Government servants who know the area well should be sought by the
Government.
Anandasangaree was giving evidence before the Lessons Learnt and
Reconciliation Commission at the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute
yesterday.
He was of the view that there are thousands of expatriates who are
capable and ready to help reconstruction activities in the North and
their assistance should necessarily be obtained rather than relying on a
single person or a handful.
He added that the people in the north are still in fear and they do
not like to see even a toy pistol. He said the possibility of
re-emergence of the LTTE or LTTE type organisations is minimal and not a
single shot was heard after the LTTE leader’s death.
Anandasangaree was of the opinion that the majority of combatants
detained by the troops are not criminals and they were forcibly
recruited by the LTTE. He stressed the need of having a viable mechanism
that can inquire case by case and ensure their early release.
He added that the Tamil Diaspora did not take any action when the
LTTE was recruiting innocent children of Tamils in the North.
“The Sinhalese and Tamils can accommodate each other.
The problem is with the leaderships not the people. My best friends
are Sinhalese and Muslims,” he said and added that reconciliation is
made easier when each learn the language of the other.
He added that language and ethnic problems go hand in hand.
