Special Madhu train service

A special train service has been introduced from Negombo to Medawachchiya for Madhu devotees.

The train service was introduced by Transport Minister Kumara Welgama in the presence of Northern Region Episcopal Vicar Rev Fr Patrick Perera and Catholic clergy yesterday.

Minister Welgama said that extra compartments too have been added.

Normal trains will also operate from Colombo to Medawachchiya in addition to the special train service.

A similar service will operate from Medawachchiya to Negombo for returning devotees, he added.

The special train which leaves the Negombo Railway Station at 7.45 a.m. will continue till today and will reach Medaw-achchiya at 1.45 p.m.

The train leaving Medaw-achchiya at 12.15 p.m. on August 15 will arrive in Negombo at 7.15 p.m. and will also operate till August 16, according to the railway time table. AFP
