M P de Zoysa - Man with outstanding qualities

The cancellation of the commemorative stamp and first day cover to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of former Labour Minister M P de Zoysa was held at the BMICH, Monday.

"He (M P de Zoysa) played an important role in Sri Lankan politics even before independence. He was associated with the State Council established under the Donoughmore Constitution. He first started his education in his village school and subsequently joined Ananda College, Colombo," said Petroleum Industries Minister Susil Premajayantha. At the occasion M P de Zoysa was called a man with outstanding qualities who felt strongly about the culture of this country.

"He was fearless and brave and commanded respect. He was a well grounded politician who remained undaunted in the face of criticism. We are indebted to him who served our motherland," the Minister said.

Post and Telecommunication Minister Jeewan Kumaratunga, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Western Province Governor Alavi Mowlana were also present.
