LTTE did not develop single school in 30 years - Namal Rajapaksa, MP

Tharunyata Hetak Organization President and Hambantota Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa stated that the LTTE had not developed a single school in the Kilinochchi District although they dominated the area for 30 years.

He made this observation on Monday at Bharathi Maha Vidyalaya in Kilinochchi at a ceremony to distribute 120,000 exercise books among the children of 82 schools reopened in the Kilinochchi District.

The books were donated with the funds of Tharunyata Hetak organization.

He also granted a token package of books at the ceremony held at Bharathi Maha Vidyalaya in Kilinochchi.

MP Namal Rajapaksa and MP Uditha Lokubandara visited 13 schools in Kilinochchi on Monday to find out their requirements and planned to visit more schools in the Kilinochchi District during this week.

Parliamentarian Rajapaksa stated that the LTTE had used the schools for military training and it was a clear indication of its leaders barbarianism. As the LTTE destroyed a large number of educated Tamil people who loved the country it also retarted the progress of the educated Tamil people by ruining their education.

He said terrorism has been eradicated under the guidance of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and expressed hope that learned and talented youth would emerge from the North and East to serve the nation enjoying the free and equal education in this country. Stating that as Tharunyata Hetak has identified the value of education as the best investment of the nation it concentrated to support the youth in their education.

Education Secretary to the Nothern Provincial Council Ilankovan and Kilinochchi Education Director Kurukulanathan also participated on the occasion.
