Educating lubricant importers:

Petroleum Industries Ministry commences program

The Petroleum Industries Ministry has commenced a special program to educate lubricant import companies to maintain the high quality of lubricants imported and marketed locally under the direction of Petroleum Industries Minister Susil Premajayantha, a Petroleum Industries Ministry spokesman said.

According to the spokesman, under the same program, attention will be paid to the legal condition in relation to the lubricant industry and the problems faced by lubricant importing companies.

Recently the Ministry introduced environmental friendly lubricants to the local market through Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and there is a significant demand for it at the moment.

In 2006, for the first time Cabinet approval was granted for the private sector to import lubricants to Sri Lanka and distribute them in the country, he said.

Then the present Petroleum Industries Minister Susil Premajayantha presented a Cabinet Memorandum and obtained Cabinet approval for 14 lubricant importers to import lubricants to Sri Lanka and distribute them within the country for a period of five years, he said+.
