An international market research conducted recently has pointed out
that the Sri Lankan Information Technology (IT) market indicates the
best potential growth prospects in South Asia, Computer Society of Sri
Lanka (CSSL) President, Chrisantha Silva said yesterday at the National
IT Conference (NITC) inauguration.
Most countries have recognized that Sri Lanka has been able to
achieve a remarkable improvement in information and communication
technology during the past few years.
"We see that there is an increase in investment in the Information
and Communication Technology (ICT) sector. Today Sri Lanka has become a
venue for highly recognized international conferences," he said.
The international community has commended the systematic use of ICT
by the Government for the development of the country. The rapid growth
in the IT literacy rate indicates the success of the Government's
initiatives in empowering the citizens of our country with ICT.
Evolving information and communication technologies mainly in web
applications have created opportunities to improve the lives of many
people.
Access to the technologies can connect a citizen in a remote area
directly with the hub of the regional, national and global markets,
Silva said.
The annual NITC organized by CSSL is one of the top IT events in the
country. The theme of NICT 2010 is ICT empowering Sri Lanka to a New
Social Order. The CSSL has played a vital role in promoting IT and
professionalism in the industry.
