Forum to enhance graduate skills

The Kelaniya University Accountancy Department will hold their
seventh Accounting Forum - 2010, on August 3, at Hilton Hotel, Senior
Lecturer in Finance Dr P K P Thilakerathna said at a press conference
held at the Information Department.
The theme of this forum will be Knowledge Management for Economic
Revival.
He said, a decade ago local graduates did not cater to the job
market. The private sector always asked why graduates did not fit into
the job market. The Accounting Department of the Kelaniya University
plans to find employment to graduates. And the Department has studied
the way to increase the quality of graduates.
This Forum was inaugurated to enhance the quality of graduates, he
said.
The most important achievements of this forum are designed to enhance
the management skills of graduates.
These students will impart their abilities to the private sector. The
private sector now provides employment to graduates. All the funds for
the forum are found by the students, he said.
Department of Accountancy, Head U L T P Gunasekera said, the scholars
get a good feedback from the training providers. Now these scholars have
collected Rs 700,000 for the fund. There are two degree programs in the
Department of Accountancy. These programs are Bachelor of Business
Management (Accountancy) and Bachelor of Business Management (Finance).
These are four year courses. In the third year every student is
attached to an audit or non audit institution for practical training.
That is the most important aspect of education. Most of the time they
get the opportunity to work for such institutes as employees, she said. |
