Ruhuna University student murder:

Namal calls for independent inquiry commission

MP Namal Rajapaksa has requested in writing from President Mahinda Rajapaksa to appoint an independent inquiry commission into the death of Ruhunu University student Susantha Bandara, to be headed by a judge.

Namal Rajapaksa in a letter addressed to the President had pointed out that there been two parties that have been pointing fingers at each other over the death of Bandara and they have maintained that it was murder.

It will be of paramount importance that the truth about this death comes to light under the circumstances, the letter said.

The letter further states: " If this was a case of homicide, we, the youth of the Blue Brigade , vehemently condemn it." "Those who are responsible for the killing must be brought to a court of justice regardless of their station or rank," the letter said. If the death of Susantha Bandara means murder , and if there are public suspicions building around it as to those who may have committed it, we consider it as a hindrance before us in our efforts to build a democratic , law-abiding and a peaceful country, the letter added.
