UK Northumbria University offers CIMA honours degree

The British High Commission in Colombo together with UK Northumbria launched an exclusive honours degree program for CIMA at a ceremony conducted at the British High Commission offices in Colombo.

The exclusive pathway will allow CIMA passed finalists to study three modules namely leadership, contemporary issues in business and management and a project to obtain the Honours Degree in Business and Management from Northumbria University. This is an innovative pathway that could be completed within six to nine months in Sri Lanka.

The unique feature of this program is the cost benefits and the time frame involved where students complete both an academic and professional qualification within a period of three and half years and the investment is negligible in comparison to the other program.

Deputy British High Commissioner Mark Gooding said. "The British High Commission is pleased to support the launch of Nothumbria University's BA (Hons) Business and Management Degree program in Sri Lanka. Nothumbria University's collaboration with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) is an innovative approach to increase access for Sri Lankan students to a British university degree. I commend the efforts of Northumbria, CIMA and their local partner BMS in setting up this degree program.

It provides the opportunity for Sri Lankan students to gain an internationally recognized British qualification and will enhance career development opportunities for the students".

Northumbria University Newcastle Business School Associate Dean, Bob Woodward said that Northumbria University Newcastle Business School is delighted to offer an innovative new work related honours degree program in Sri Lanka, the BA (Hons) Business and Management.

The program has been specifically designed for CIMA qualified students. By fully recognizing the CIMA curriculum and CIMA standards, the program is able to offer CIMA qualified students specific exemptions.

This provides entry to the program at an advanced stage which enables students to complete an honours degree with one year of part-time study".

CIMA Regional Director South Asia and Middle East Bradley Emerson said. "Adding value to our members and students on a continuous basis is our endeavour.

The degree program for CIMA qualified students from Northumbria University is yet another initiative towards this objective.

The degree will further enhance the lead position CIMA enjoys among employers in Sri Lanka and across the world.

The completion award degrees from British universities is an endorsement of the quality of the CIMA curriculum, and in our view is an advocacy for the next generation professional qualification".
