Top Six all-island swimming at Ananda pool

In an effort to improve the standards of swimming and to popularize
swimming amongst the youngsters, the Ananda College Aquatic Club along
with the College Swimming Pool Management Committee have organized the
Top Six All Island Age Group Championships for the 4th consecutive year.
This was revealed by Organizing committee Chairman Dr. H. S. Perera
at a press briefing held at the SSC recently. Nearly 1,000 swimmers from
schools, clubs, institutions will swim at the 4th Annual All-Island Age
Group Swimming Championship - ‘Top six’ meet be held on August 6, 7 and
8 at the Ananda College Swimming Pool, starting at 8.30 a.m.
The events to be worked off are: 50 metres, back breast, butterfly
and free style, 100 metres back, breast, butterfly and free style. In
addition, 200 metres individual medley event is also on the cards. The
age groups under 8, under 10, under 12, under 14, under 16, under 19 and
also an open event will take place for the swimmers who are over 19
years.
The significance of the top six event is that the top six swimmers of
each event would be awarded certificates. Every age group winner will be
presented trophies. In addition, the first three places in the
respective events will receive gold, silver and bronze medals while the
three other winners will be awarded certificates.
Entries will close at 6 p.m. on July 25, 2010. The champions of each
group (male and female) will receive a Trophy. Overall champions (male
and female) will each receive a championship challenge Trophy.
Bank of Ceylon Chairman Dr. Gamini Wickramasinghe and Mrs.
Wickramasinghe will be the chief guests and will distribute the awards
along with of Ananda College Principal L M D Dharmasena. |
