CME Trade Union action unjust - Post Master General

Post Master General M.K.B. Dissanayake stated that the work to rule
trade union action by four trade unions of the Central Mail Exchange (CME)
was unjust as they have commenced it against a disciplinary action taken
by the Department on four employees of the Register Branch for allegedly
committing a fraud.
The Post Master General talking to the media at a press conference at
the Posts and Telecommunications Ministry said that the Postal
Department had to interdict four employees of the Register Branch of the
Central Mail Exchange when it found 6000 letters had been registered
charging Rs. 50 less than the normal charge.
The Post Master General further stated that due to the work to rule
campaign there were 368 bags of registered letters to be delivered in
Colombo and another 406 bags outside Colombo. In addition there were
another 23,966 and 8834 registered letters to be delivered within and
outside Colombo respectively, not delivered.
Secretary to the Post and Telecommunication Officers’ Association K.S.
Weerasekara, Superintendent of Colombo Central Mail Exchange H.M.P.
Herath and representatives of 21 Trade Unions of the Department of Posts
also participated at the occasion.
