NDB Bank holds skills development program
The NDB Bank Corporate banking team together with students and
representatives from the Colombo University.

NDB Bank in collaboration with Colombo University Alumni Association
and the Career Guidance Unit recently organized a program on
“Entrepreneurship Skills Development” for the University students.
The programme was aimed at developing entrepreneurial skills of the
undergraduates of the University.
Thirty-four Third and Final Year students from the Art, Management
and Science Faculties participated in the ‘Entrepreneurship Skills
Development’ program that was held at the NDB Bank Auditorium. The
programme consisted of technical sessions that covered numerous aspects
of entrepreneurship. These sessions were conducted by successful Sri
Lankan entrepreneurs. The sessions were followed by panel discussions
with experts from the industries together with senior management of the
Bank.
The technical sessions were conducted by experts such as - Perera &
Sons (Bakers) Limited Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer Gihan
Perera, Daya Group of Companies Chairman Daya Gamage, Javana & Graphics
(Pvt) Limited Managing Director Nihal Athukorala and Vendol Company
Lanka (Pvt) Managing Director L G Godakanda. They shared their
experiences and expert knowledge on areas such as overview of
entrepreneurship, using SWOT as a tool for successful entrepreneurship
and importance of marketing for a successful entrepreneur.
Papua New Guinea Nationwide Micro Bank Chief Executive Officer A. L.
Somaratne, Marketing and Retail Banking of Hatton National Bank Deputy
General Manager Chandula Abeywickreme and NDB Investment Bank Manager
Seneka Kekiriwaragoda, also shared their expert knowledge on identifying
business propositions, sources of funding available for entrepreneurs
and the development of a business plan.
A session on ‘facing life’ was conducted by - CandleAid Lanka
Founder/President Captain Elmo Jayawardena, to motivate and encourage
the students to face challenges in life.
At the end of the sessions, the students were divided into groups
where each group was required to submit a business plan developed by
them. Each group was allocated with a mentor from NDB Bank to assist the
group in preparing their Business Plan.
The winning teams were subsequently selected by a panel of judges
after the evaluation of the submitted business plans. The best three
business plans were awarded cash prizes and all participants of the
programme were awarded Certificates of Participation. The award ceremony
was held at the Colombo University in the presence of Faculty of
Management Dean Dr. P S M Gunaratna and Career Guidance Unit Director
Dr. Prasad Wimalaratna and other representatives from the university and
the bank.
