Severe congestion at Thimbirigasyaya Divisional Secretariat

Thimbirigasyaya Divisional Secretariat is experiencing a severe congestion due to the large influx of persons coming from all parts of the Colombo district to obtain certified copies of birth, death and marriage certificates.

Though these certificates could be obtained from any divisional secretariat in the district, most people are unaware of it, said Divisional Secretary R A Chulananda.

The large influx is due to the fact most births, deaths and marriages are recorded in the Thimbirigasyaya Secretariat as the area has several State and private hospitals, she explained.

"Nevertheless these certificates could be obtained within a few minutes from any divisional secretariat in the Colombo district."

Over 500 persons come daily to the Secretariat to obtain its services but the staff attend to all, albeit with some delay, she said.

By now the Thimbirigasyaya Divisional Secretariat has records of 3.5 million births, 500,000 marriages and 800,000 deaths.
